He previously served as chairman and CEO of Beam Suntory, having joined Beam in March 2009 as president and CEO and led the company’s successful growth strategy transformation and subsequent integration of the Beam and Suntory spirits businesses following Beam’s acquisition by Suntory in 2014. Since April 2019, Matthew Shattock serves as non-executive chairman of the board of Beam Suntory Inc., the world’s third-largest premium spirits company. Karen also recently joined the Kansas City Royals ownership group. Among her extensive service, she is a Past President of the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board, having led the $80M restoration of the Liberty Memorial, and has also served on the boards of the Women’s Employment Network, KU Advancement, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Northwest Missouri State University Foundation, City Year, and the Kansas City Campus for Animal Care, to name a few.

Karen is deeply engaged in community work as a decades-long business and civic leader in Greater Kansas City. She serves on the corporate Boards of Snap-on Incorporated and Commerce Bancshares, and recently completed her terms on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Kansas City and Livongo Health.

Karen is the retired Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer and President of the Global Finance & Technology Solutions division for Black & Veatch (B&V), a global leader in providing engineering, consulting and construction services for Power, Oil & Gas, Water, and Telecommunication Sectors.
